In the following document you will read about the design of a
1,900 square foot home on a steep slope in Asheville, NC (Part
1). Also, this is followed by Part 2, an example of an existing
log home in the same general area illustrating a much different
design concept.
Intro
to Steep Slope Design
The purpose of this document is to discuss some of the issues
of building up a slope as opposed to building down the slope.
In this particular case the driveway approach is from below the
house and the view from the house is toward the driveway or down
the slope.

The following document is my observations and
comments regarding the development and construction techniques
and their direct impact on the environment and the residence of
Bear River Lodge. I have also included my recommendations.
Development
and Construction Observations at Bear River Lodge - PART 1
This is the second part of a two part study/observations
of the development of Bear River Lodge located in the mountains
of western North Carolina in Madison County. This second part
focuses on Phase Two of the development. Unlike Phase One, the
development is ongoing, utilities are being installed, roads are
being built and there are no houses.
Development
and Construction Observations at Bear River Lodge - PART 2
Below are excerpts taken from my book Journey to a Living House.
I have extracted the parts from the book that describe the house
(I took out all the adventure and love story stuff). I thought
this might be inspirational to some and maybe give you a few ideas
about the house you might want to build. Though this is a fictional
work, the question is: Is this house real or not? All the technology
you will read about is real and exists– but is the house? I hope
you enjoy the brief excerpts.

from Journey to a Living House
The purpose of this document is to have a basic
understanding of footers and foundations and to be able to understand
a basic foundation plan. Also, to look at steep slope footers
and walls and have a basic understanding of the issues associated
with them.
Footers
and Foundations
The purpose of this document is to develop a
very basic understanding of floor plans and to be able to visualize
the framing as illustrated on the floor plans.
